Actually, yes, primarily because it's the version with which I am most familiar. That said, if you guys are willing to allow me to try your patience, I'll muddle my way through 0th edition, should that be the version chosen.
Oh, and for the record, Justin says a.

"A" provided it doesn't create too much work for the DM.

As for where we should play, I think we should, in the interest of everyone getting to know everyone, play at rotating households. If we aren't playing too often, as our schedules have dictated, then I think we might be able to swing a couple of hours of travel. I think we should consider rotating at least once through Mike's, Rick's, Justin/Amanda's, and my houses. It's just an idea, but the house of the person invariably says something about that person. Plus I want to make sure everyone gets to see Mike's monster-movie-poster collection. It kills me everytime I see it.

I'd also prefer to play on Sundays. I may only have one more year left in norman and would like my campaign to get as much playtime in it as possible.

Could I talk you into oh....I don't know....relocating to the sub-tropic region? All the cool kids are doing it! *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* ;D

All righty. It's settled. It will be basic. And I think I've solved the problem of the books. I went to RPGnow.com and downloaded a couple different versions of basic and then printed them out. These, combined with the one, possibly two paperback versions, will give us a number of copies in addition to the copies that might also be floating around in our attics. I think Mike also bought one.
Now, I'd also like to suggest playing at least once at our new house as a sort of combo DnD weekend and house warming party. We'll provide the hookers. Just kidding, of course.
The more and more I think about the conversion of this campaign to the basic system, the less likely it seems we'll be likely to play in May. We have quite a lot of commitments coming up through the end of May, anyway, and I think it would be hard to find the time when we weren't all in school, or out of the US, or playing other games, or seeing movies, etc.
Nevertheless, I really would like all of us to roll up character prior to play, and the basic rules make it so easy to do this that we could do all this in advance. I'm set on the notion of a point distribution system rather than dice rolls for attributes and I'm going to stick with the standard character class/races for the basic rules, which limits us to dwarf, elf, halfling, human cleric, human fighter, human magic user, and human thief. And I'll stick with those as well for the NPCs. It will of course be 1st level.
In basic, elves, dwarves, halflings, and human fighters are pretty much the same except that elves have spell ability just like magic users. Their draw back is that they don't advance quickly at all. Halflings get hit bonuses for missile weapons, and dwarves get infravision. Halflings and dwarves both have the best saving throws of the lot.
If what I've just said STILL hasn't scared you off, then please contact me about your character and I'll give you the points to distribute and the standard saving throws for your race.

I think what you've just said is hilarious. This is gonna be a wild ride... well, as wild as a dorky activity where grown-ups sit around a table pretending to be in a world where we're cool can be.

I'm pretty sure in 1st edition Dwarves have to speak with scottish accents, and elves have to use british ones to.
Does this mean that if I'm a cleric I can't pick a dagger again? Because it causes blood, where a spiked club that makes their eyes pop out is "less offensive".

Yes, that's exactly what this means. Although, Elves actually speak Spanish. ¡Viva los duendes!

Thanks, Katie!!!!
Next comes the post where Justin announces that all players will be assigned what amounts to random characters. The ability scores will all be equal, but they will be arranged in a random order on the character sheet before play begins. Class will follow from this. Players devise the backstory, but otherwise exert no initial control over or the ability scores or their arrangement. Sorta like how it is in real life, you play the hand you're given. 9 Str, 6 Int, 5 Wis, 11 Dex, 10 Con, 18 Cha??? Congratulations, you're George W. Bush!
