www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14204483/Pilgrim’s Progress: In the twilight, Billy Graham shares what he's learned in reflecting on politics and Scripture, old age and death, mysteries and moderation. www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2006/008/9.38.htmlHow Then Shall We Politick?: Michael Gerson, recently resigned Bush speechwriter and adviser, on how evangelicals should comport themselves in the public square. Almost nothing gets me angrier than hearing people claim the title “evangelical” or “fundamentalist.” To me, those are mostly excuses not to be engaged and thinking about social justice. But then I read stuff like this, and my anger just turns into a loving frustration. Billy Graham will die a pudd'nhead, but his old age seems to at least get him started on the right path...even if his brain is too aged to pursue it. Michael Gerson has set Protestantism’s relation to government back about 100 years, but I see where both he and Billy are coming from: A warm spot under a heavy rock. PS Before you ask: I consider these guys Wilsonian in the sense that they wish to make the world safe for democracy, which they interpret as being entailed by Christianity. (It isn't.) Of course, they depart from the true aspect of Wilsonianism which seeks to accomplish harmony through a League of Nations rather than unilaterally.
