People want freeloaders punished, study finds: Live and let live is fine at first, but over time, sanctions preferred www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12188869/from/RS.3/(But I am a Democrat because I don't want the sanctions on freeloaders to involve denials of food, shelter, and social opportunity.)

That's why we have to hide the promise of education and financing in the guise of 'forced work' for those on welfare programs. In order to be eligible for welfare (or public office) you have to join the military. It's equivalent to exchanging some freedoms for some benefits. Of course, these people wouldn't be forced to fight, primarily because it needs to be a pacifist military, but secondarily because the military should encompass road crews and park rangers and city councils.

I guess that really begs the question: When can Republicans expect you guys to sign up for new voter ID cards?

I'd get an id card the first day. I think what should happen is that we liberals should speak out loudly against the voter id cards and then make sure, the first day they come out, to get everyone that votes as we do to sign up for one. Kinda like kicking them with their own boot. You'd get all the "social-security-number-is-the-sign-of-the-beast" and the "you-can-have-my-gun-when-you-pry-it-from-my-cold-dead-hand" groups (probably 30% of the republicans) wouldn't go for it.
