www.tnr.com/easterbrook.mhtml?pid=1166www.nasa.gov/pdf/142458main_FY07_budget_full.pdfAccording to high-side estimates for the cost of a moonbase it would come in for about the same price ($200 billion) as the cost of one year of the war in Iraq. So instead of creating terrorists and further destabilizing the Middle East (which was, admittedly, not very stable to begin with) we could have built three moonbases. Or for the grand total in Iraq so far, we could have gone to Mars. ...not that a moonbase is a great idea either, as the New Republic piece argues.
