Okay, before I even start...I have to say that I have a thing for Vampire/Werewolf movies...and medieval movies...and I'm always so excited when a new one comes out, that even really crappy ones usually end up on my bookshelf when they are released on DVD...with that being said...
I loved Underworld...and was beyond excited when I saw the second one was coming out...*I also think Scott Speedman is a complete babe...I'm old and married but not dead!*...I even paid full price last night for SEVEN PEOPLE...and I was....sad to report disappointed...
UE did a whole recap of the first movie...which is fine...but they spent way too much time on it...and while they gave the history of how Lycans and Vampires came to be...and showed you how the lineage has survived all these centuries...it became weighted down and sluggish in it's storytelling...Then when certain things happened that would normally make a person go "How is that possible?"...they would do a PIP type thing with a flashback to remind you that they already gave you this information...It would have been fine if it had only a couple of times...but it happened like five or six times...and it made me feel like I was watching Closed Caption for the morons...I don't know if they felt they gave you so much information that you would forget certain details...but really...some of us can remember what we saw and heard only twenty minutes before.
The look of the film was good, very stylish...very smooth in movements...Kate Beckinsale still looked incredible in her leather suit...Scott Speedman still looked hot in human form...and his hybrid form was still bizarre to behold...And Bill Nighy's creepy Viktor's flashback scenes were well done...in fact, I had no problem at all with the look of the movie or the cast...I just had a problem with the script and the choices that were made by Len Wiseman...if he just wanted to make sure his wife looked hot during the sex scene...well...he accomplished that goal.
