The last three rough drafts I've done are pretty good indicators of where I am musically these days:
1. Hero 11/27/05 2. Christmas Eve (at our house) 12/19/05 3. Green Line 1/17/06
If there are lessons to be drawn, I'd give these: 1. I am moving toward more natural sounding instrumentation and away from industrial and dance sounds. 2. Shorter songs. Nothing hanging out. 3. Piano and electric piano. 4. Not worrying too much about vocal quality 5. Vocal arrangement is better developed, if poorly executed.
On the downside: 1. The music doesn't fit nicely into any genre. 2. The vocals still pretty much suck. 3. The drums still sound fake. 4. The mixes are amateur at best. 5. The lyrics are either simple or unengaging.
So, I think I've made some advances but still have a long way to go. Maybe by the time I am 50 I would be talented enough to be a teenage pop musician.
