www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8010244/“We were set to perform ‘The Hand That Feeds’ with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W. Bush as the backdrop. Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me,” Nine Inch Nails’ leader Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the band’s Web site.

Interesting. I have such mixed feelings about Mr. Reznor. He's such a self-obsessed dork. I despise his lyrics, but then, he really composes some great soundscapes. I had dinner with Justin and Amanda and Jess last weekend. Justin and I were discussing Nine Inch Nails, and I brought up the subject of Reznor's lyrics. Justin said, "I've always felt that if you're gonna like Nine Inch Nails, you have to like them despite Trent Reznor's lyrics." I thought that was a funny and astute comment.
That said, I have to admit a kind of grudging respect for Reznor deciding not to perform without the image of Dubya behind his band. Not everyone has the guts to pull a move like that. But then, there's another side of me that sees it as contrivance.
