Congratulations, Chris...seems like I say that a lot these days. Good luck on the diet, too. I have only lost one pound in the last two weeks. So, I am at 184 right now. There's just a little more than two weeks left in this month, so my suspicion is that I won't make 179. But we'll see.

Happy to have you onboard, Amanda. But I don't think I will make my goal for April, The month is half over and I am only at 183.

My dieting was not completely successful this month. I only lost four pounds. So, here at month’s end I am tipping the scales at 181. I think it will be progressively harder for me to lose weight; after all, it takes less calories to sustain less weight, and I am already more than 20 lbs lighter. I didn’t change anything this month as far as exercise and calories are concerned. Jenn says I could always exercise more and make my goals, but I really don’t enjoy exercise. Maybe later this summer I’ll try her suggestion. She also said that maybe I’ve just reached a plateau and I should keep my goals exactly where they are. After I get past the plateau I might begin to lose weight more rapidly. I’ll be happy if this happens. But I don’t think it is likely.
So, I have a choice. Try to lose 8 lbs in one month or revise my goals. I think it’s safest to revise them. Here are the new ones:
By the end of May: 177 (By the time Rick and David show up here in McAllen 176) June: 173 July: 169 August: 165 September: 161
I know that Amanda is following along, so I hope these goals are good for you, too, Mandark.
I am here to tell you guys, losing weight is hard work. There are 3500 cals in a pound, or so they say. In order to lose 4 lbs/month you have to cut 14000 cals out of your monthly diet. That’s the equivalent of not eating or drinking any calories for one week out of every month…or worse depending on your caloric needs.
Whenever I finish dieting, I am certainly not going to go back to the way I was eating. And next time I gain weight, I am not going to wait till I am 40 lbs heavy to start dieting!

Oh yeah, the May results. 183. I actually gained two pounds. But I am trudging ahead, staying the course, etc...

Jeff, what with what's been going on over the past couple of months, most people would have said fuck-it and given up. Good job.

It does give me some measure of satisfaction to observe that even as some of the most basic parts of my life come crashing down, I am still right where I want to be doing just what I want to be doing. I’ve made some good choices and some bad ones, and the bad ones don’t take the good ones away.
